History

Bemidji Woolen Mills was founded in 1920 by Ira P. Batchhelder and Ira H. Batchelder. A father and son, they set out to produce the highest quality, authentic outdoor woolen apparel for the logging industry. The market area was mainly Northern Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin.

Logging has changed dramatically from the initial days depicted in the historic photos on this site. However, the need for out traditional woolen apparel remains in high demand for today's outdoor citizen.

During the 1930's and 1940's Northern Minnesota was discovered as "The Great Northwoods playground." By the thousands, individuals came to explore our Great forests, Spectacular Lakes and Wonderful Rivers. Bemidji Woolen Mills was also discovered, our trustworthy woolen garments won a special place in the wardrobe of these original outdoor citizens. Hence our authentic trademark was born.

Todaya over seventy-five years later, Bemidji Woolen Mills continues manufacturing essential woolen apparel for the outdoor industry.
